Bob Seger's 'Promise' continues to grow

Bob Seger is still adding dates to a concert trek that finds the Michigan rocker back in full touring mode for the first time in 10 years as he supports his first studio album since 1995.

The singer, currently performing to near-capacity crowds in arenas throughout the Midwest, has added a block of dates toward the end of December in his Detroit-area home base of Auburn Hills, MI. Seger has also made some steps into next year with new January dates in Boston and Charlotte, and a pair of February shows in Texas.

Seger--who is backed on the tour by a 10-piece band featuring a horn section and longtime Silver Bullet Band members Chris Campbell, Craig Frost and Alto Reed--will make his next stop Thursday (11/16) in Milwaukee. The tour kicked off Nov. 8 in Grand Rapids, MI.

"Face the Promise," which hit stores Sept. 12, is Seger's first studio effort since 1995's "It's a Mystery." The interval between the two discs is the longest in the 61-year-old singer's career. The new album's initial single is titled "Wait For Me."

"It's a pretty high-energy rock record," Seger recently told USA Today. "I would say it's more rock 'n' roll than usual. I wrote a lot of songs, a lot of songs. I probably recorded about 30, but the best songs happened to be more rock-leaning."

The album debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 chart, marking Seger's highest-ranking release of any kind in 10 years.

A 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Seger began his recording career almost 40 years ago, when he released "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" with his then-current band, The Bob Seger System. He went on to record more than a dozen albums, most with his longtime group, The Silver Bullet Band, and has notched lifetime album sales of nearly 50 million.

Seger's 1994 "Greatest Hits" compilation has sold more than 7 million copies to date, and has remained on the Billboard Pop Catalog charts for an unbroken 600-week run.
