Of Montreal to back new set with extensive roadwork

Indie popsters Of Montreal will embark on a sprawling North American club tour in January to back their upcoming studio release, "Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?"

The Athens, GA, quintet (named after frontman Kevin Barnes' broken romance with a woman from Montreal) will kick things off Jan. 19 in Memphis. The outing currently comprises more than 50 dates and runs into April.

A variety of opening acts will join the group along the way, including A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Grand Buffet and Peachcake.

"Hissing Fauna," set for a Jan. 23 release, follows last year's "The Sunlandic Twins," and its download-only remix companion, "The Satanic Twins." The new album contains 12 tracks, and was recorded with "some thoroughly rad help" from James Huggins, the Late B.P. Helium, Nina Twin, Heather McIntosh, Georgie Fruit, and Alabee Blonde, according to a press release.

The group, which formed in the late '90s and became part of a second wave of Elephant 6 bands (a collective that featured Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral Milk Hotel), sports several songs from its previous pair of albums on its official website.
