Snoop Dogg arrested again
The arrest, which shut down traffic for hours outside the NBC studios where the rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, had been taping his performance, turned up marijuana, cocaine, a firearm, and a false compartment in his car, according to police spokesman Kevin Grandalski.
The arrest was the performer's third in as many months. Broadus was arrested in October at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank and charged with marijuana and gun possession, both of which carry extra penalties owing to the rapper's previous felony convictions.
According to a Los Angeles Times article at the time of the October incident, police approached Broadus for an unspecified "vehicle code violation" while his car was parked in a loading zone, and officers "said they soon discovered a gun and marijuana in his vehicle."
Tuesday's arrest is the latest in a string of recent legal woes for the performer. In addition to his October arrest, Snoop Dogg was arrested after he allegedly tried to take a collapsible police baton onto an airplane at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, CA.
The performer made bail, which was set at $60,000, and was released about seven hours after his arrest, according to the Associated Press. "As of this point, he stands innocent of all charges," Snoop's lawyer, Donald Etra, told the AP. "The goal tonight was to get him out of jail. The goal tomorrow is to deal with the case."
Snoop's latest run-in with the police comes on the heels of the Nov. 21 release of his latest studio album, "Tha Blue Carpet Treatment," which reunites the rapper with producer Dr. Dre for the first time in almost five years. Both rappers rose to fame largely on the strength of Dre's 1992 solo debut, "The Chronic," which featured Snoop's vocals.
Snoop is scheduled to embark on a Canadian tour in early 2007, with Ice Cube along as a special guest.
