Update: James Taylor Negotiates Deal With Striking Musicians

Striking musicians of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra will put their work stoppage on hold Friday and Saturday (10/1-10/2) so that James Taylor 's symphonic shows can go on.

''This development was initiated by James Taylor himself who did not want to disappoint his many fans in our community and who was anxious to make his debut with the TSO,'' said a statement issued by the symphony. ''At the request of the musicians, the current work stoppage has been put on a temporary hold by mutual agreement. The concerts will be presented by the TSO in cooperation with the musicians of the Orchestra.''

Terms of the agreement between Taylor and the musicians weren't disclosed on Thursday.

Salaries have been an issue with the Toronto symphony's 98 musicians since 1992, according to the Toronto Star. That year, with the symphony on the verge of bankruptcy, musicians agreed to take a 16% pay cut. The musicians stopped working on Sept. 25, but negotiations continue.

Taylor embarked on his two month symphonic tour -- during which he and a small band perform with the local symphony in each market -- earlier this week in Rochester, N.Y.

On New Year's Eve, Taylor is booked to play a non-symphonic set with his full band at the new Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena in North Carolina.
