Rock Star Supernova taps familiar faces to open
Fledgling super-group Rock Star Supernova , whose lead singer won the gig by competing against a field of hopefuls on the CBS series "Rock Star: Supernova," has tapped "Rock Star" show-host Dave Navarro's new band, The Panic Channel ; runner-up Dilana; and fellow runner-up Toby Rand's Juke Cartel as the opening acts for its upcoming tour.
The artists hit the road in mid-January and are scheduled to make stops in more than two-dozen cities by the time the outing wraps up on the West Coast at the end of February. Details are shown below.
In September, Canadian vocalist Lukas Rossi beat out Dilana and Rand in the reality-show competition. The win placed him at the helm of Rock Star Supernova, which includes drummer Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), guitarist Gilby Clarke (ex-Guns N' Roses) and former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, who has been sidelined by an injury and temporarily replaced by touring bassist Johnny Colt (Black Crowes, Train). The group issued its self-titled debut album last month.
Since the show wrapped up, Dilana has been working on a full-length solo debut that is scheduled to hit stores next summer, according to her publicist. Fans can get an early listen to the singer's work by hitting her MySpace page, where the songs "Supersoul" and "Roxanne" are streaming; a third cut titled "Holiday" is scheduled for release next month.
All three songs feature No Doubt drummer Adrian Young, who, according to a press release, is one of many players Dilana has worked with in recent months.
"I've been able to write, record and play with so many amazing and generous musicians that I feel like I’m in some sort of musical wonderland," Dilana said in a statement.
During a recent interview with LiveDaily, Clarke gave his perspective on Rossi and Dilana.
"We always knew it was between Lukas and Dilana from day one," Clarke said. "They were the two that showed us something that was different. That's what we always said: 'We want a singer that's gonna take us places. We want someone who's different, someone we haven't seen before, something unusual,' and they both showed that."
Navarro's The Panic Channel offered up its debut album, "(One)," in August. The group features Navarro's fellow Jane's Addiction alumni Stephen Perkins (drums) and Chris Chaney (bass), as well as frontman Steve Isaacs.
Rand's Juke Kartel has been recording its debut album in Los Angeles, and recently signed with a major management firm that is currently negotiating with several record companies to ink the band's first label deal, according to a November press release. The Australian-based group's first single, "Throw it Away," is streaming at its MySpace page.
Before launching the tour, Rock Star Supernova will warm up with back-to-back shows in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
