Kid Rock spends holidays with the troops

The politically outspoken Kid Rock has decided to spend this holiday season bringing the joy of rock 'n' roll to US troops in the Middle East.

The trip, sponsored by Armed Forces Entertainment and America Supports You, will see the Detroit Cowboy perform for military personnel in Kuwait and Iraq.

"This year for Christmas, I wanted to make sure somebody was thanking our troops for their service, no matter what our views are on the current situation in Iraq," Kid Rock said in a statement. "I would be spending Christmas with my family but, in my heart, I know this is the right thing to do--not only for our men and women in service, but also to set an example for my son and send a strong message to the world to be thankful and think of others at Christmas time."

The performer, whose real name is Bob Ritchie, released his first-ever live album, "Live Trucker," in February. The 13-track set captures Rock and his Twisted Brown Trucker band in all their glory at various Michigan locations in 2000 and 2004, according to Rock's MySpace page, which is streaming a few songs from the record. "Live Trucker" features guest appearances from Uncle Kracker, the late Joe C and Gretchen Wilson.

Rock's last studio album was 2003's "Kid Rock." He is currently working on his next effort with producer Rick Rubin, whom Rock talked about during an interview with LiveDaily earlier this year.

I've been working with Rick Rubin forever," Rock said. "He's always sat down and listened to all my records with me, giving me advice and talking music and shop, and all sort of good stuff."
