Buddy Guy can't quit the blues in '07
Blues/rock legend Buddy Guy is hitting the road in April with a North American tour that will see him on the East Coast and in Ontario, Canada.
A few festival dates follow through the summer, including Los Angeles' Playboy Jazz Festival in June; Greenfield, MA's Green River Festival in July; and Urbana, IL's Wall to Wall Guitar Fest in September. Details are listed below.
Guy will also pay an early February visit to India, playing shows in Delhi and Mumbai. Information for those dates are available at the musician's website.
In October, Guy released his first-ever career-spanning box set, "Can't Quit the Blues," which includes three CDs with six previously unreleased tracks covering the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's 50 years in music. It also features a 90-minute DVD documentary on Guy's life and career with previously unseen live footage and six performances from his years at the Montreux Jazz Festival beginning in 1974. A 40-page color book with notes by Anthony DeCurtis and rare photos of Guy is included, as well, according to Guy's website, which is streaming his music.
The package follows 2005's "Bring 'Em In," which finds Guy trading guitar licks with the likes of Carlos Santana and John Mayer.
Guy has had a fundamental impact on blues and rock music with his loud, aggressive playing and flamboyant, "hanging from the rafters" live concerts. Stars including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck have counted the five-time Grammy winner as a major influence--if not the main influence--in their careers.
Guy is also the proprietor of Chicago blues nightclub Buddy Guy's Legends.
