AFI covers Bowie, plots early 2007 shows
Alt-rockers AFI have added a few new shows to their early-year headlining tour as the band continues to build momentum behind last year's chart-topping "Decemberunderground" release.
The California punk revivalists will launch their mini-tour Jan. 31 in Tampa, FL, with 12 shows in three weeks currently on the schedule. Fellow alt-rockers Sick of it All and The Dear and Departed will offer opening support on the trek.
AFI has also made available online a few recent live performances. The group's covers of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" and Blur's "Song 2" can be found at the band's website. Also available for viewing are performances of "Love Like Winter" and "Endlessly She Said," both off the band's most recent album.
Released in June, "Decemberunderground" sold about 182,000 copies during its first week in stores, enough to debut atop The Billboard 200 album chart. The feat marks AFI's first No. 1 disc. The new set features the hit single "Miss Murder."
The group released its first live DVD, "I Heard a Voice," on Dec. 12.
