Ben Kweller set to ride solo and with Gomez
Texas singer/songwriter Ben Kweller will hit the road in February, playing a series of co-headlining dates with alt-rockers Gomez and continuing to back his latest, eponymous album.
Kweller will also play a few solo dates, including the tour's kick-off date, Feb. 12 in Aspen, CO. The Gomez dates kick in a few days later, starting with a Feb. 15 show in Seattle, and the two acts will stick together on the road through the middle of March.
After finishing up his slate with Gomez, Kweller will set up a run through Australia and Japan later this spring. Full details on the singer's overseas itinerary are available at his website.
The self-titled "Ben Kweller," the singer's third album as a solo artist since leaving his original band, Radish, in the late '90s, was recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters). The disc surfaced in stores last September.
Kweller's previous effort was 2004's "On My Way," which was recorded live to studio tape under the supervision of producer Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams, Kings of Leon).
Kweller also appears on the upcoming America album "Here and Now," a new, half-studio, half-live effort from the '70s soft-rock icons that also features collaborations with Ryan Adams and members of My Morning Jacket and Fountains of Wayne, among others. Kweller and Adams will join America during a Jan. 16 appearance on CBS-TV's "Late Show with David Letterman," performing a version of the band's "Ride On."
Vocalist/guitarist/pianist Kweller first became widely known as the frontman of Radish when he was just 16 years old. That band--hyped as the next Nirvana--signed to Mercury Records after a frenzied bidding war amongst major labels, but its 1997 debut, "Restraining Bolt," didn't strike a nerve with the public or with critics. The group never released a follow-up album, and broke up by the end of the decade.
