Art Garfunkel launches 'Enchanted' tour
Just ahead of his new album, Art Garfunkel has kicked off an international tour that will take him to cities all over the US as well as Europe and Canada through April.
A couple of November shows in Dayton, OH, have also been added to the itinerary, and there are more gigs on the way, according to a press release.
Current North American dates are listed below. Euro dates, which take the singer through England, Scotland, France, Denmark, Germany and Austria from March 9 to April 1, can be found at Garfunkel's website.
The "Enchanted Evening" tour kicked off last weekend with a sold-out show in Cerritos, CA, where Garfunkel debuted two songs from his upcoming record, which is set to hit stores Jan. 30.
"Some Enchanted Evening," Garfunkel's 12th solo album, celebrates material from 20th Century songwriters including Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Antonio Carlos Jobim and George Gershwin.
The record reunites the singer with producer Richard Perry (Barbra Streisand, Rod Stewart, Carly Simon, Ringo Starr), who recorded Garfunkel's 1975 platinum-selling album, "Breakaway."
"In a sense, Richard and I picked up where we left off," Garfunkel said in a statement. "This album is Richard's elegant production, it fits me good, and I am especially proud of it."
Garfunkel added that he brought some of his favorite songs to the table, like "Some Enchanted Evening" and "Let's Fall in Love," while Perry added his favorites, including "Life is But a Dream" and "Quiet Nights."
In discussing the track "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face," Garfunkel told Long Beach Press Telegram writer Phillip Zonkel, "I think it's my best singing."
The collection of standards is Garfunkel's followup to 2002's "Everything Waits to be Noticed," which marked his songwriting debut.
