Willie Nelson piles on the dates
Another slew of dates has been added to Willie Nelson 's tour itinerary, which so far takes the country legend to the UK and all over the US through the end of March.
Nelson will also play the first day of the Stagecoach country music fest in Indio, CA, May 5. That inaugural event is being put on by organizers of the massive Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, which is held at the same site the prior weekend.
The Red-Headed Stranger will head across the Pond Jan. 19-28 and then kick off US shows Jan. 31 in Miami. He'll crisscross the States and play several dates in Florida, Texas and California. Domestic shows are listed below and international dates can be found at Nelson's website.
Nelson teamed with alt-rocker Ryan Adams for his latest album, "Songbird," which the country icon described as an "experiment." The October release comprises covers including Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," Gram Parsons' "$1000 Wedding" and the title track written by Christine McVie. It also includes new renditions of Nelson classics like "Sad Songs and Waltzes" and two new originals.
A few tunes from "Songbird" are streaming at Nelson's MySpace page.
The album follows two releases in 2006: September's "The Great American Songbook," which includes standards like "Georgia On My Mind" and "Moon River," and March's "You Don't Know Me: The Songs of Cindy Walker."
In addition to non-stop touring, Nelson has found time to advocate for causes like the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act and share his wisdom in his latest book, "The Tao of Willie: A Guide to the Happiness in Your Heart." He continues his acting career as well, reprising the role of Uncle Jesse this year in "The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning."
