Harry Connick Jr. expands My New Orleans trek
Native New Orleans son Harry Connick Jr. continues to expand his upcoming outing, which so far has confirmed dates in the Eastern half of the US from late February through mid-March.
More shows are still to come, according to Connick's website. The updated itinerary is listed below.
Connick's big band will accompany him on the My New Orleans Tour, which pays tribute to the singer's hometown and supports two new album releases that are set to hit the streets Jan. 30.
On the big band album "Oh, My Nola," Connick croons classics that are central to the musical culture of New Orleans, and introduces four new songs that he wrote. The other record, "Chanson du Vieux Carré," is Connick's third instrumental piano release on the Marsalis Music record label.
Connick and jazz musician Branford Marsalis have been working together to help those who were affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. They serve as honorary chairs of Habitat for Humanity's hurricane rebuilding program, Operation Home Delivery. The Musician's Village, which was conceived by the pair, consists of Habitat-constructed homes for displaced New Orleans musicians.
Connick's latest single, "All These People" from "Oh, My Nola," was inspired by the suffering he witnessed firsthand after the hurricanes. All proceeds from the song, which features gospel singer Kim Burrell, will benefit the Musician's Village.
Meanwhile, Connick may need to make room for another Grammy award on his mantle. The cast album for the Tony Award-winning production "The Pajama Game," in which Connick made his Broadway theatrical debut, is up for Best Musical Show Album.
