Windham Hill Announces Line-Up For "Winter Solstice Tour"

Veteran Windham Hill recording artists David Arkenstone and Liz Story top the bill for the label's 1999-2000 Winter Solstice Tour, which opens Nov. 26 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The bill will also feature guitarist Sean Harkness , harpist Lisa Lynne , and the female new age trio Angels of Venice.

The tour's first leg will run through Dec. 21. After breaking for the holidays, it will resume in Pennsylvania on Jan. 6. The tour is scheduled to conclude on Jan. 16 in New Jersey.

In previous years, the tour has visited a variety of theaters, clubs and arenas. This year, the emphasis will be on performing arts centers. Tickets will be available to the centers' patrons through annual subscriptions, but also to the general public..

''While the shows have been enormously popular in the past, the artists agreed with me that the arts audiences would be an appropriate new market to cater to,'' Windham Hill exec Ron McCarrell said in a prepared statement. ''We feel our music will be a benefit to their programs, and their prestige will help boost our profile as well.''

The Winter Solstice Tour will coincide with the first Winter Solstice On Ice television special, scheduled to appear on the A&E cable network on Dec. 4. Among the featured skaters will be Brian Boitano and Yuka Sato. Featured Windham Hill performers include Jim Brickman, Tuck & Patti and Jeffery Osborne. The event was taped earlier this year in Finland.
