Crowded House reunites with new album, tour on the way
More than 10 years after Crowded House played its farewell concert, the Australian-based pop-rock band has announced it will reunite for a new studio album and world tour.
The news comes just as California's Coachella festival revealed that Crowded House is on the bill for the April 27-29 event. No other dates have been announced as of yet.
Band frontman Neil Finn and bassist Nick Seymour reconnected following the 2005 suicide death of Crowded House drummer Paul Hester, Finn told The Dominion Post of New Zealand. The two spent much of 2006 hanging out and making music together, and intend to release a new record, "Time On Earth," later this year.
"It feels right to us that the band should re-emerge at this time and, together with [guitarist/pianist] Mark Hart, we look forward to reconnecting with the audience that we established and for whom we still hold a deep respect," Finn said in a press release. "We aim to make the upcoming shows and the new music every bit as vital and spirited as what has come before."
Finn also said the band is actively searching for a new drummer.
"We are conscious that Paul Hester was above all a great drummer and we are currently auditioning to find someone special to take that role,” he said.
The reunion comes just as Crowded House has released a double-CD and DVD of its massive 1996 farewell concert outside the Sydney Opera House. "Farewell to the World" is a 24-song set with live renditions of hits including "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong."
