Paolo Nutini to travel 'Streets' in North America
Soulful Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini is poised to bring his music to North America with a tour that kicks off Jan. 25 in Chicago.
The first leg of the tour runs through Feb. 3, and the second launches March 2 and continues through that month. Details are included below.
Nutini is promoting "These Streets," which spawned the UK hit singles "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" and "Last Request." The set hits US stores Jan. 30, the same day he makes stops at "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "The Today Show" in New York City. The vocalist/guitarist's band includes bassist Michael McDaid, drummer/vocalist/keyboardist Jim Duguid and guitarist/vocalist Donny Little.
Nutini is nominated for the Brit Awards' Best British Male prize along with Thom Yorke, Jarvis Cocker, Lemar and James Morrison. The awards, which are the British equivalent of the Grammys, will be handed out during a Feb. 14 ceremony at London's Earls Court.
Growing up in Paisley, Scotland, Nutini was inspired by the likes of The Drifters and Ray Charles, as well as Van Morrison. But music wasn't his first love.
"Initially, I'd wanted to be a football [soccer] player," Nutini recalls in his publicity bio, "specifically a goalkeeper. But the more I sang, the more I realized it was just something I could do. I was hardly going to walk away from that, was I?"
