Briefly: Billy Joel, Brandy, KISS, Goo Goo Dolls
Billy Joel makes his return to pop music next month with the premiere of a new track titled "All My Life."
The cut, which was produced by Phil Ramone, will premiere Feb. 7 on People.com, according to Billboard. It will then be sold exclusively via Apple's iTunes Music Store from Feb. 20-March 6, and via most other digital retailers from March 7 on. The song reportedly will be released as a commercial CD, as well, though no release date has been announced.
Joel, who is currently gearing up for a tour that launches next week, hasn't released any pop music since 1993's "River of Dreams," after which he said he wouldn't write any more pop songs. He has released only classical compositions since.
The California Highway Patrol has recommended that actress/R&B singer Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in connection with a freeway crash that killed another motorist last month, according to an Associated Press report. The charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in county jail and a $1,000 fine.
On Dec. 30, Brandy, 27, was driving a Land Rover on Interstate 405 when traffic slowed and her vehicle struck the back of a Honda driven by Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Aboudihaj's car subsequently hit another vehicle, slid sideways into the center divider and was then struck by another car. Aboudihaj was transported to a hospital, where she died from "blunt-force injuries," the paper reported.
Veteran rockers KISS have inked a deal with Platinum Studios to create a new comic book based on the quartet's make-up-wearing alter egos, according to a press release. Titled "KISS 4K," the comic will tell "the story of the transformation of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and the other KISS band members from rock stars to world-protecting warrior spirits." A super-sized edition of the first issue will retail for $50, and will be the first comic release by the newly formed KISS Comics Group. More information is available at the company's website.
"We've had licensed KISS comic books before but never our own imprint and never with the wide reach across so many multi-media platforms," Simmons said in a statement. "Paul Stanley and I are personally involved in all day-to-day decisions and we are looking forward to extending the KISS legacy, images and sound to our fans around the world."
The Goo Goo Dolls are scheduled for a Feb. 6 appearance on the cable-television shopping channel QVC, during which the trio will push a special-edition version of its latest album, "Let Love In," according to a press release. The CD will be bundled with a DVD titled "Live and Intimate," which houses "rare acoustic tracks compiled especially for QVC."
