Briefly: Heaven and Hell, Notorious B.I.G., Shadows Fall, Yes
Original Black Sabbath members Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi have teamed with post-Ozzy Osbourne-era Sabbath frontman Ronnie James Dio and drummer Vinnie Appice to record three new cuts for a forthcoming best-of set.
Titled "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years," the collection is due out April 3, and features previously released material alongside the new songs: "The Devil Cried," "Shadow of the Wind" and "Ear in the Wall." Dio, Iommi, Butler and Appice recorded the new cuts late last year. The quartet, now billed as Heaven and Hell , will launch a world tour next month.
Also in the pipeline is "Black Sabbath: Live at Hammersmith Odeon," which captures 1981 Dio/Appice-era concert taped in London.
Bad Boy Records will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of rapper Notorious B.I.G.--a.k.a. Christopher Wallace--by releasing "Greatest Hits," a 16-track compilation. The album hits the street March 6.
"Christopher Wallace was more than an artist, he was my friend," Bad Boy CEO Sean "Diddy" Combs said in a press relaese. "... I wanted to celebrate his legacy, life, and work as we mourn his senseless death 10 years ago. The release of 'Greatest Hits' makes it clear to the world why the Notorious B.I.G is the greatest rapper of all time."
Shadows Fall has nailed down an April 3 release for its new album, "Threads of Live." The disc features the leadoff single "Redemption," which will make its radio premiere Friday (2/16) on Sirius Satellite Radio's Hard Attack (channel 27), according to a press release. The cut will be available for purchase at iTunes beginning Tuesday (2/20).
Shadows Fall is gearing up for its run on this winter's Jagermeister Music Tour, which features headliners Stone Sour.
British prog-rockers Yes will be the focus of the latest installment in Eagle Eye Media's Montreux DVD series. Titled "Yes Live at Montreux 2003," the disc--which features a 17-song set that clocks in a two hours and 18 minutes, according to a press release--is scheduled for a March 20 release.
