The Stooges prepare to unleash 'Weirdness'

The reunited Stooges have carved into their schedule a few concert dates to follow the March 20 release of "The Weirdness," the group's first album in more than 35 years.

Featuring punk-rock godfather Iggy Pop on vocals and two other original members--Ron Asheton on guitar and his brother, Scott Asheton, on drums--the Michigan rockers will continue their resurgence April 7 in Boston, the first of eight headlining dates that the band has set up for that month.

The band will also make a March 17 appearance in Austin for the SXSW music festival, where the group will perform and also be interviewed by music journalist David Fricke.

Rounded out live and in the studio by former Minutemen/fIREHOSE bassist Mike Watt, The Stooges entered producer Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studios last October to begin laying down tracks for "The Weirdness," the group's first album of all-new material since 1973's David Bowie-produced "Raw Power."

The seeds of The Stooges' reunion were sown four years ago, when the Asheton brothers joined Pop in the studio to back the singer on four songs from his then-current album, "Skull Ring." The group commenced touring after the album's release, enlisting Watt as replacement for the late Dave Alexander, the group's original bass player, and making some notable appearances at various music festivals around the world.

"My Idea of Fun," the first single from "The Weirdness," is currently streaming at the band's MySpace page.
