More dates roll in ahead of Harry Connick Jr. tour
Harry Connick Jr. has got one more week before he kicks off his North American tour, and the crooner has added another month's worth of dates.
Connick and his big band will start the "My New Orleans" trek Feb. 23 in Boca Raton, FL, and focus on the eastern half of the US through May 6, when they are scheduled to close the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. They will also play three mid-April shows in Torontol. Details are listed below.
The outing supports two new albums that Connick released Jan. 30. "Oh, My Nola" includes classics that are central to the musical culture of Connick's native New Orleans as well as four new songs written by the performer. "Chanson du Vieux Carré," also a tribute to the city, is Connick's third instrumental piano release on the Marsalis Music record label.
Besides working with Branford Marsalis on musical endeavors, Connick has teamed with the jazz musician to help those affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The pair are honorary chairs of Habitat for Humanity's Operation Home Delivery program and they also conceived the Musician's Village, which consists of Habitat-constructed homes for displaced New Orleans musicians.
Proceeds from Connick's latest single, "All These People," will benefit the Musician's Village.
If his music and humanitarian duties don't keep him busy enough, Connick passes the time performing on Broadway or acting in television and film projects. As part of the cast of the Tony Award-winning Broadway production "The Pajama Game," Connick was recently vying for another Grammy award. However, the Best Musical Show Album trophy went to "Jersey Boys" instead.
The multi-talented Connick has sold more than 20 million albums in his career, according to his website.
