Michael Jackson said to be mulling over Vegas offers

Spokespeople for Michael Jackson are denying reports that the "exiled" King of Pop is shopping around to several resorts in Las Vegas the idea of a performing residency in that city, but don't deny the possibility of such a deal occurring.

Jackson's spokeswoman, Raymone K. Bain, did not deny in a recent press release that the singer is currently living in Las Vegas and is "reviewing" several proposals to create a Jackson showcase, but insists that the proposals were not solicited by the entertainer.

"Mr. Jackson has been presented numerous proposals--proposals which he has not solicited, but were presented to him, several of which include performing in Las Vegas," Bain said in a press release.

"Mr. Jackson is currently reviewing and evaluating each proposal. He does not believe that he is under any time constraint for making his decisions."

Bain added in the statement that the singer "did not move to Las Vegas to shop a Vegas show," claiming that Jackson "is in Las Vegas because he likes the city and found it a convenient location to record with the artists, songwriters and producers who are working with him in the studio."

The press release was apparently issued to counter a number of recent Jackson rumors, including the notion that the entertainer was angling to appear on the hit television series "American Idol" as a guest celebrity judge. Bain said in the press release that "Mr. Jackson has no current plans to appear or perform" on the show.

Recently, several gossip and entertainment websites reported that Jackson would be appearing on "Idol," mainly basing their reports on a conference call with members of the press held by the show's executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe. The producer was discussing the confidentiality agreements required by all contestants on the show and used Jackson as an example, saying that he wouldn't want contestants to "slip out with somebody telling their mom that Michael Jackson is coming."

Jackson became a Las Vegas resident in late 2006, following a well-publicized stint living (and possibly recording an as-yet unconfirmed new album) in the Middle East nation of Bahrain. The Nevada city is the latest of several moves for Jackson following his abandonment of Neverland Ranch in Santa Ynez, CA, after being acquitted of child-molestation charges in 2005.
