ZZ Top heads out on US trek
That Little Ol' Band from Texas, ZZ Top , is getting ready to hit the road for the first time since 2005.
So far, US dates are booked through late April. Shows get underway Tuesday (3/6) in Biloxi, MS, followed by stops in Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, California and a two-night stand in Las Vegas. Details are listed below.
ZZ Top's most recent studio album, "Mescalero," was released in 2003; a two-disc hits collection, "Rancho Texicano: The Very Best of ZZ Top," followed in 2004. Rumors have been swirling that the group is working on a new record.
Formed in 1969, ZZ Top is one of very few rock-and-roll bands with its original members still intact after three decades.
The band made some changes last year, splitting with manager Bill Ham, who was instrumental in the group's formation, and ending its tenure with RCA Records after 14 years, according to a press release.
With their trademark beards and flashy videos, the trio gained widespread commercial appeal among the MTV generation of the '80s. Their 1983 album, "Eliminator," and 1985's "Afterburner" collectively spawned a slew of hits, including "Legs," "Sharp Dressed Man," "Sleeping Bag" and "Velcro Fly."
ZZ Top--Billy Gibbons (vocals/guitar), Dusty Hill (bass) and Frank Beard (drums)--was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and recently was inducted into the City of Houston's Hall of Fame, as well.
