Ben Folds goes to college
Quirky singer/songwriter Ben Folds is set to launch a spring tour this month that will take him primarily to college campuses in the Eastern US into mid-May.
The trek starts March 24 in Worchester, MA, and hits cities in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and New York. Confirmed dates are listed below. More shows are expected, according to Folds' website.
Last October, Folds released "supersunnyspeedgraphic, the lp," a 12-song collection of original songs culled from his series of EP releases, b-sides, covers and film-soundtrack appearances. The remastered tracks include Folds' takes on The Cure's "In Between Days," The Darkness' "Get Your Hands Off Of My Woman," and a melancholy version of Dr. Dre's "Bitches Ain't S---."
Folds is getting his fans in on the action, offering them a chance to make their own video for "Bitches Ain't S---." The best videos are featured at the performer's website and MySpace page.
Folds' most recent studio album, 2005's "Songs for Silverman," was his first full-length set since 2001's "Rockin' the Suburbs." A blog entry he posted at his MySpace page last year said he was going back into the studio to record a new album. Folds also said he was kicking around the idea of a live, orchestral CD.
While fans wait for new material, there are several other Folds projects they can get their hands on: The "Ben Folds Live at MySpace" DVD, which was filmed at the musician's Nashville studio in October for MySpace's first ever live-by-request webcast, is currently available, as is the "Ben Folds & WASO - Live in Perth" DVD. The "Over The Hedge" film soundtrack features five Folds songs, and the performer is a co-writer, producer and player on William Shatner's January 2005 release, "Has Been."
