Buddy Guy takes the blues worldwide
The world appears to be Buddy Guy 's stage this year. The 70-year-old blues/rock legend has a slew of club, theater and festival dates booked through September, including a full North American trek, and stops in Singapore and Spain.
Guy's next gig is Saturday (3/10) in Joliet, IL, and then he'll take off for a March 16 show in Singapore. He'll be back in America in early April for a run of dates all over the US and Canada before heading out on a four-show stint in Spain beginning June 7. The rest of the summer and fall will see the Chicago-blues king play a host of North American festivals.
Domestic dates are listed below, while those overseas can be found at Guy's website.
Guy, who is deemed a major influence on rock gods including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, released his first career-spanning box set in October. "Can't Quit the Blues" includes three CDs covering the five-time Grammy winner's 50-year career, including six previously unreleased tracks. The set also comes with a DVD documentary, which includes previously unseen live footage and a 40-page color book.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's most recent studio set, 2005's "Bring 'Em In," sees Guy pairing with guest stars including Carlos Santana, John Mayer, Tracy Chapman, Robert Randolph and Keith Richards on a collection of classics.
Guy, known for his electrifying guitar playing and high-energy performances, was proclaimed by Clapton to be “by far without a doubt the best guitar player alive," according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
