Briefly: Incubus, 'High School Musical,' Elton John, music sales

Incubus has postponed the balance of its in-progress tour because of an unspecified hand injury suffered by guitarist Mike Einziger.

"It has been determined by Mike's doctors that surgery is the most viable option for enabling a fast and full recovery," the group said in a press release, adding that the guitarist is expected to need 8-12 weeks recovery time. "All of the members in Incubus wish to express their apologies to those fans holding tickets for the postponed concerts."

The group, which was originally due to canvas Europe, South America and Mexico through mid-May. plans to reschedule the nearly two-dozen postponed shows. Make-up dates have not yet been announced, but will be posted at the band's official website and at its MySpace page when available, according to Epic Records.

A traveling version of Disney's "High School Musical " will hit the road this summer, and is expected to hit over 60 cities by the end of 2008, according to organizers. The new stage adaptation of the Emmy Award-winning Disney Channel original movie will feature a score that includes all the songs from the original soundtrack, plus two new numbers. A yet-to-be-named cast of 35 actors--backed by a live orchestra--will be under the direction of Jeff Calhoun ("Big River").

So far, plans call for the production to debut at Detroit's Fisher Theatre from June 26-July 8, then move to Philadelphia's Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts July 11-22, and on to Chicago's LaSalle Bank Theatre July 25-Sept. 2. Ticket on-sales will be announced locally in each market, and subsequent stops will be unveiled later this spring, according to a press release.
