Arcade Fire cancels European trek, adds Vancouver show
Indie rockers Arcade Fire have canceled the last nine dates of their current European tour because of vocalist Win Butler's sinus infection, the band announced.
The group said on its website that Butler has been fighting the infection since the beginning of the year and "has simply been unable to get back to full health."
"With the constant demands on his voice from touring it has reached the stage today where he simply cannot sing," the band wrote, adding that ticket-holders for the shows should get in touch with the promoters directly regarding refunds. The band plans to reschedule the shows for later this year.
Closer to home, the Montreal group has added a May 24 show in Vancouver, British Columbia, to its upcoming North American tour, which kicks off April 26 in San Diego, and has also announced the venues for its three-night New York City stretch (May 7-9). The first two nights will find the band performing at The United Palace, with the last of the three shows taking place at Radio City Music Hall.
Tickets for all three New York shows go on sale to the public March 30, with tickets for the Vancouver date becoming available April 7. The itinerary is shown below.
Arcade Fire's latest album, "Neon Bible," hit stores March 6, debuting at No. 2 on Billboard's Top 200 album charts. According to the publication, the album sold 92,000 copies during its first week on store shelves.
