Andrew Bird takes wing with headlining trek
Singer/songwriter Andrew Bird will celebrate the release of his new album, "Armchair Apocrypha," by launching a headlining tour in April.
The Chicago-based performer, who also plays violin and incorporates his "unnatural whistling ability" into his recordings (according to his online bio) will kick off his spring tour April 11 in Grand Rapids, MI. The 25-city outing includes an April 28 appearance at the Coachella festival in Indio, CA.
Singer/songwriter Cortney Tidwell will handle opening duties for the first seven dates of the tour.
"Armchair Apocrypha"--which debuted at No. 76 on The Billboard 200 album chart by selling more than 11,000 copies during its first week, according to Bird's publicist--was recorded mainly in Minneapolis at Crazy Beast Studios and Third Ear Studios with, respectively, producers Ben Durrant and Tom Herbers manning the boards.
Bird assembled a cast of collaborators from the local music scene to help record his follow-up to 2005's "The Mysterious Production of Eggs," including drummer and keyboard player Martin Dosh, singer Haley Bonar, bassist Chris Morrissey and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Ylvisaker.
A song from the new album, "Heretics," is available for download from Bird's website.
