Harry Connick Jr. heads West

After a short break, Harry Connick Jr. and his big band will return to the road April 4, and they're packing for a whole new run of North American dates in the South and West.

The "My New Orleans" tour kicked off in late February with an itinerary focusing on the eastern half of the US and Canada through late April. Now, after Connick closes out the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival May 6, he'll make his way West, including a run of eight shows in California. Dates currently wrap June 30 at the Montreal Jazz Festival in Quebec. Details are listed below.

The outing supports two new records that Connick released in January: "Oh, My Nola," which includes four new songs alongside classics central to the musical culture of New Orleans, and "Chanson du Vieux Carré," Connick's third piano release on the Marsalis Music label.

In addition to his musical tributes to his native New Orleans, Connick has worked tirelessly to help those affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, including donating money from his latest single, "All These People," and serving with musician Branford Marsalis as honorary chairs of Habitat for Humanity's Operation Home Delivery program. Their efforts were honored earlier this month when they were named Humanitarians of the Year by live-event company EventPro.

The Grammy-winning Connick--who has sold more than 20 million albums during his career, according to his website--also scored kudos this year on the acting front. He was nominated for another gold statue as part of the cast of last year's Broadway production of "The Pajama Game."

Connick has two film projects on deck this year: "Bug," a horror film co-starring Ashley Judd, and "P.S., I Love You" with Hilary Swank, according to the Internet Movie Database.
