Social Distortion launches spring tour
Southern California punk icons Social Distortion will head out on a North American trek this month that includes 10 shows in Canada.
Dates begin April 12 in Ventura, CA. That show is already sold out, as are gigs in Chico, CA, and the Canadian cities of Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. Second dates have been added on most of the Canadian stops. Social D will also hit Memphis' Beale Street Music Festival May 4. Details are listed below.
SoCal rockers I Hate Kate, who are getting ready to release a new album, and Vancouver-based punkers The Black Halos , who are working on their fourth record, will open the shows.
Rumor has it that Social Distortion is working on a new record to be released this year. The band's most recent studio album, 2004's "Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll," marked its first set of new material since 1996's "White Light, White Heat, White Trash."
"Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll" was Social D's first recording without founding member Dennis Danell, who died of a brain aneurysm in 2000. Jonny Wickersham has since taken over guitar duties.
Frontman/songwriter Mike Ness is the only constant member of the band. The current lineup includes drummer Charlie Quintana, who replaced Chuck Biscuits in 2000, and bassist Brent Harding, who replaced John Maurer after 20 years with the band.
Ness formed Social Distortion in 1979. Five years later, the band's "Another State of Mind" was one of the few punk videos to air on MTV, according to Social D's website. The band scored mainstream success in the '90s with the singles "Ball and Chain," "Story of My Life" and "I Was Wrong."
