Patty Griffin running through another batch of shows

Austin-based folk singer/songwriter Patty Griffin , who is riding high on her latest release, "Children Running Through," has added more spring/summer dates to a North American tour that launched last month.

After a short break, the outing picks up again April 13 and primarily covers the Eastern US and the South through mid-June. Dates include two nights at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium May 1-2. Details are listed below.

Upon its February release, "Children Running Through" scored Griffin her highest ever first-week sales totals, according to a press release. The disc moved nearly 27,000 copies and entered The Billboard 200 chart at No. 34, almost doubling the sales of Griffin's previous set, 2004's "Impossible Dream."

Griffin said in a statement that her aim for the new album was to "strip everything down and just give it a few brushstrokes here and there, to come up with something that's quiet but powerful."

A few songs from the record are streaming at Griffin's MySpace page.

In addition to touring, the Grammy-nominated singer is making the TV talk show rounds, having already appeared on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and preparing for the "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" April 10 and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" April 12.

In the meantime, a new Off-Broadway musical featuring Griffin's music starts next month. "10 Million Miles," by Keith Bunin, will begin previews May 11 at Atlantic Theater Company in New York.

Griffin, who has garnered critical acclaim for her broad range of influences and emotionally complex songwriting, has been embraced by a wide array of artists who have recorded her songs, including the Dixie Chicks, Bette Midler, Reba McEntire, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris, to name a few.
