Toby Keith unleashes 'Big Dog' this summer
Hard-touring country superstar Toby Keith is making plans to hit the road again this year, this time on the Big Dog Daddy Tour, which is named after his forthcoming album.
The 50-plus-date outing will play amphitheaters and festivals all over the US this summer, including a July 20 stop in Sarnia, Ontario, for Bayfest 2007. Details are listed below.
Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Miranda Lambert and country band Flynnville Train will open the shows. Lambert is set to drop her sophomore album, "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," May 1, while Flynnville Train will release its debut on Keith's Show Dog Nashville label July 24.
Keith's "Big Dog Daddy" is set to hit stores June 12. The album, Keith's second on his own label, marks the first time he's acted as sole producer. Lead single, "High Maintenance Woman" is already a Top-10 hit on the country chart and is the fastest-rising single of Keith's career, according to a press release. The track is streaming at Keith's MySpace page.
The entertainer's previous release, "White Trash With Money," surfaced in April 2006 and became his 12th career platinum album. It spawned hits including "Get Drunk and Be Somebody," "A Little Too Late" and "Crash Here Tonight."
Last year also saw the release of the "Broken Bridges" soundtrack, which includes seven cuts by Keith. The singer made his acting debut in the film, co-starring with Kelly Preston and Lindsey Haun. He has since said he enjoyed the experience so much that he'd like to make a movie every other year from now on, according to his website.
Last year was the fourth consecutive year that Keith--who's sold more than 30 million albums over the course of his career, according to a press release--was the most-played country artist on radio, according to airplay data monitored by BDS Nielsen. He also scored his third BMI Songwriter of the Year crown and won BMI Song of the Year honors in 2006.
Keith is up for two CMT Music Awards this month--Video of the Year and Male Video of the Year for "A Little too Late"--and he's vying for Video of the Year at May's ACM Awards.
