Pearl Jam-led Lollapalooza announces initial lineup
Along with previously announced headliner Pearl Jam , Lollapalooza will host 130 bands August 3-5 at Chicago's Grant Park.
Topping the list of performers are Modest Mouse , Iggy and the Stooges, My Morning Jacket , Interpol, Daft Punk, Ben Harper, Muse, and Lolla founder Perry Farrell's new band, Satellite Party. Pearl Jam's festival-closing set is expected to be that band's only US show this year. The initial lineup is listed below.
Lollapalooza, formerly a traveling festival, successfully reinvented itself in 2005 as a multi-day event anchored in the Windy City. Event organizers have since made a deal to remain at Grant Park through 2011.
In addition to music on nine stages, the event will offer Kidzapalooza for the next generation of Lolla fans, with family-oriented musicians, a hip-hop workshop, "a rock and roll petting zoo," hair and makeup styling, and a dance floor, among other things, according to organizers.
Lollapalooza will also bring back Mindfield, a multimedia, interactive attraction, and introduce a new "Green Street" exhibit to promote ecological sustainability, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The regular price for a three-day pass has increased to $195, but service charges have been eliminated.
Last year, Lollapalooza expanded from two to three days and reportedly drew 166,000 fans.
