Sonic Youth plots revisit of 'Daydream'
Alt-rock icons Sonic Youth will mount a tour this summer, during which they plan to perform their groundbreaking 1998 album, "Daydream Nation," in its entirety.
The band will also release a new, expanded version of the set, which Rolling Stone last year named one of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time."
The veteran New Yorkers will find themselves jetting all over the globe during the next few months. The band is scheduled to play a few shows in Japan next week in advance of its April 27 slot at the Coachella festival in Indio, CA, and then launch a European tour in June leading up to its full-length "Daydream" performances, which kick off June 27 in Berlin.
The group will return to the US in July for three "Daydream" shows, beginning with a July 13 show in Chicago, and followed by performances in Berkeley and Los Angeles, CA. Details for the US dates are shown below, and the band's complete world tour plans can be found at its website.
The extended re-release of "Daydream Nation" will feature bonus tracks, new liner notes and "unseen band photos," according the group's record label. In addition to the set's CD re-release on the Geffen label, the band will release a 4-disc vinyl version on its own Goofin' Records imprint.
Sonic Youth's most recent studio album, "Rather Ripped," was released last June. The set, which was recorded in late 2005 in the band's hometown of New York, is Sonic Youth's first new album since 2004's "Sonic Nurse," and also the first since the Jim O'Rourke's departure from the group. O'Rourke had been a full member of the band since 2002's "Murray Street" CD.
