Genesis turns on more cities
With demand running high and a few shows already sold out, Genesis recently added four more dates to the "Turn It On Again" tour, which will see the band make its first North American trek in 15 years.
The new shows are set for Sept. 5 at New York City's Madison Square Garden and Oct. 10 at Sacramento's ARCO Arena, plus a third show was added at Chicago's United Center and a second night was tacked onto the Hollywood Bowl stop in Los Angeles. The full itinerary is listed below.
Genesis will kick off its tour in Europe June 4 and make its way to North America Sept. 7, starting in Toronto. So far, dates wrap Oct. 13 in Los Angeles. Details about the European leg are available at the band's website.
The veteran prog-rockers have also been tapped to open the London segment of the 24-hour, seven-continent, Live Earth concert July 7. They will play a 20- to 25-minute set at Wembly Stadium before rushing off to perform in Manchester that evening, according to a press release.
Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks got the reunion hype started in November when they announced the "Turn It On Again" tour. The trio will be joined onstage by longtime Genesis sidemen Chester Thompson (drums) and Daryl Stuermer (guitar). During a New York City press conference last month, Collins said he and Thompson would treat concertgoers to a lot of double drumming.
The outing has no corporate sponsor, and no guest performers are anticipated. Genesis will play songs from its large catalog, forgoing material from the bandmates' solo careers.
The group has also begun the process of remastering and reissuing 13 Genesis studio albums. The first box set, "Genesis: 1976-1982," hit the streets last month.
The band has sustained success for more than four decades, selling upwards of 130 million albums in its career, according to a bio.
