Briefly: Tony Bennett, Sum 41, Rick James, Velvet Revolver
Singer Tony Bennett has scrapped more shows as he continues to battle flu-like symptoms.
The 80-year-old Bennett--who, so far this month, has canceled an appearance on "American Idol" and pulled the plug on subsequent concerts in Phoenix, Las Vegas and New York--has now postponed his Thursday (4/19) show in Columbus, OH, and his Friday (4/20) show in Cleveland. Make-up dates have not yet been announced.
"The 15-time Grammy winner was advised by his doctor to restrict plane travel and to rest for the next five days," his publicist, Sylvia Weiner, said in a statement.
Pop-punk trio Sum 41 has announced a July 24 release date for "Underclass Hero," the group's first new studio set since 2004's "Chuck." The set's title track will serve as the leadoff single, and is due to hit radio stations May 15, according to a press release.
"I wanted to make an album that meant something important from beginning to end," frontman Deryck Whibley said in a statement. "I wanted it to have relevance and significance. It's not a concept album. It's not about fictional characters in a made-up story but there is a constant idea that runs through the record. It's a deeply personal statement that reflects the confusion and frustration in modern society."
Rick James fans can look forward to this spring's release of "Deeper Still," the album the late funk legend finished just prior to his death in 2004. The album will surface May 15 on Stone City Records according to a press release.
Two weeks prior to the album's release, James' autobiography will land in stores. Titled "Memoirs of a Super Freak," the album is described in a press release as "a revealing, raw, salacious and brutally candid no-holds-barrred autobiography penned while James was incarcerated in 1993-1995 at California's Folsom State Prison."
Rockers Velvet Revolver have settled on a July 3 release for their sophomore album, "Libertad," according to Billboard. Frontman Scott Weiland, formerly of Stone Temple Pilots, recruited super-producer Brendan O'Brien--who oversaw a number of STP albums--to produce the set. The album's artwork is posted at the band's website.
