Wolfmother lines up more US shows
Grammy-winning Australian rockers Wolfmother , who are currently finishing a spring North American trek, have lined up a slate of new US shows for later this summer.
The band, which had to cancel some US shows last fall following the unexpectedly early arrival of bassist/keyboardist Chris Ross' baby son, still has a number of shows left on its spring trek, which kicked off back in February. The group is scheduled to play Friday (4/20) in Nashville at the Rites of Spring music fest, with performances lined up well into May.
After a short breather, the band, which is supporting its self-titled debut album, will tackle a fresh lineup of US shows, kicking off June 20 in Tulsa, OK. The itinerary, which is shown below, also includes a June 17 slot at the Bonnaroo music festival in Manchester, TN.
In February, Wolfmother took home the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance for its song "Woman," the first Grammy win for an Australian band since Men at Work were awarded a gong 25 years ago.
Released in the states last May, "Wolfmother" was produced by Dave Sardy (Oasis, Dandy Warhols), and is certified double-platinum (210,000 units sold) in the group's native country, where it hit stores last fall. The disc was voted "Album of the Year" by Australia's alternative radio network, Triple J.
The band recently contributed a new, Sardy-produced song, "Pleased to Meet You," to the "Spiderman 3" soundtrack, which is due in stores May 1.
Wolfmother--Andrew Stockdale (guitar/vocals), Chris Ross (bass/keyboards) and Myles Heskett (drums)--came together in 2000 and spent several years together "jamming in anonymity," according to their online bio, before playing their first shows in front of an audience in 2004. The group issued a self-titled EP that same year, and followed it up with this year's US-only EP "Dimensions."
