Briefly: Bob Dylan, 'Spider-Man 3' soundtrack, North Mississippi Allstars, Ponderosa Stomp
"Hucks Tune," a new song from folk legend Bob Dylan , will turn up on the "Lucky You" soundtrack, which hits stores next week.
The album also features new recordings from Bonnie Raitt , Kris Kristofferson and actress Drew Barrymore, who stars in the film, as well as previously released material from Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams and Liza Minnelli. The set is due out Tuesday (4/24), and the film arrives in theaters May 4.
A limited-edition version of the "Spider-Man 3" soundtrack--which will arrive in stores alongside the standard edition on May 1--will feature a number of bonuses, among them an exclusive track from The Flaming Lips titled "Theme from Spider-Man," according to a press release.
Other extras include a 32-page, embossed, hard-cover book featuring photos from the movie, and five collectible movie cards housed inside an 8"x 8" box made from a replica of the rubberized Spider-Man suit.
Additionally, the album will be available in four different vinyl picture discs in clear gatefold sleeves; images from the film will be pressed on one side of the vinyl, and each of the four editions will be limited to a 1,000-unit run. A standard double-album vinyl version in a gatefold sleeve will be available as well. Details about where and when fans can purchase the limited-edition vinyl soundtracks will be announced shortly, according to a press release.
As previously reported, the album will include music from Snow Patrol, The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wolfmother and Jet The Walkmen, Black Mountain, Simon Dawes, Chubby Checker, Rogue Wave, Coconut Records, Sounds Under Radio, Wyos and The Oohlas.
North Mississippi Allstars have announced a June 26 release date for "Keep on Marchin'," the group's first concert DVD. The set, which was shot with six High-Definition cameras, captures the group's 10th anniversary performance at Higher Ground in Burlington, VT.
"After so many nights on the road, I was almost burned out," guitarist/singer Luther Dickinson said in a statement. "But the crowd was so cool and [bassist] Chris [Chew] was preachin' the blues; I found myself inspired. I'm proud to have this one show documented so well."
This year's Ponderosa Stomp roots festival in New Orleans, which takes place May 2 at the House of Blues, will also feature a number of spin-off events scheduled to run April 30-May 3, according to organizers. Among the pre- and post-festival activities are concerts by Little Freddie King ; Eddie "The Hawg" Kirkland, Ernie Vincent and Irving Bannister; Simeon from Silver Apples featuring One Cut Kill and Viva L'American Death Ray Music; and Little Band o' Gold with special guests Rod Bernard, Lazy Lester, Tommy McClain and Warren Storm, according to a press release. More information is available at the Ponderosa Stomp website.
