Briefly: Jimmy Buffett, Mountain Jam, Drowning Pool, Van Halen
Each broadcast is expected to begin with a pre-show, backstage party hosted by Buffett's daughter, Jane Buffett, and will also feature interviews with the elder Buffett, according to a press release.
As previously reported, Buffett's tour launches April 21 in Houston.
Grateful Dead co-founder Phil Lesh and his ever-changing band--dubbed Phil Lesh & Friends--will make their only 2007 festival-season appearance as part of the June 1-3 Mountain Jam in Hunter, NY, according to a press release. The current incarnation of the group features Lesh, Warren Haynes (guitar, vocals), John Molo (drums), John Scofield (guitar) and Steve Molitz (keyboards).
In addition Lesh's outfit, the event will also feature Haynes' primary act, Mountain Jam mainstay Gov't Mule , as well as G. Love & Special Sauce, Umphrey's McGee, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Robert Randolph and The Family Band, New Orleans Social Club (featuring Henry Butler, Ivan Neville, Leo Nocentelli, George Porter Jr. & Raymond Weber, Ozomatli, North Mississippi Allstars, Tea Leaf Green, Assembly of Dust, New Monsoon, Earl Greyhound, Papa Mali, U-Melt, The Brakes, Backyard Tire Fire, The Mercers, Tea Leaf Green and RAQ.
"Soldiers," the first single from Drowning Pool 's forthcoming album, "Full Circle," is now available as a free download via the USO's MySpace page. The group wrote the song last year after participating in a USO tour through Iraq and Kuwait, according to a press release.
"Full Circle" is due out July 24, according to the band's publicist.
Guitar legend Eddie Van Halen , whom we last heard from when he announced in early March that he was heading into rehab, appeared last weekend at the Phoenix International Raceway, where he served as an Honorary Race Official for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Race. During his appearance, the seemingly made-over guitarist--who, in photos from the event, is shown with a short haircut, dark tan and what appears to be some new dental work--unveiled a limited-edition Fender Stratocaster Guitar, as well as a limited-edition EVH Frankenstein replica.
Still no word on the fate of the band Van Halen's indefinitely postponed reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth.
