Widespread Panic maps summer tour, heads for studio
Veteran jam band Widespread Panic will juggle its typically busy summer touring schedule with a retreat to the studio to begin work on its 10th studio album.
The group will launch its summer run with a pair of festivals, beginning with the June 9 Wakarusa festival in Lawrence, KS, and followed a week later by the band's sixth headlining slot at Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN.
Beyond the festival circuit, the six-member group will play a variety of two- and three-night runs during its summer outing, kicking off with a three-night stand at suburban Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Full details are included below.
Widespread Panic will also soon head into producer Terry Manning's (Lenny Kravitz, ZZ Top) Compass Point, Bahamas studio to begin work on its new album, according to the band's publicist. The group will begin recording next month, and the new set is tentatively set for release this fall.
The forthcoming album will follow last year's "Earth to America," a tour in support of which spawned a live, 2-DVD set, "Earth to Atlanta," filmed at that city's Fox Theatre. The concert was simulcast live to 115 cinemas around the country, with more than 60,000 fans in virtual attendance, according to a press release.
When it hits stores, the new set will mark the band's first release with new guitarist Jimmy Herring, who joined the group last fall.
