Briefly: Linkin Park, Rock on the Range, Bjork, Busta Rhymes
Linkin Park will usher in its forthcoming album, "Minutes to Midnight," with a release-eve event during which a soon-to-be filmed concert will air simultaneously in movie theaters across the country and online.
The May 14 broadcast of the band's May 11 concert at New York City's Webster Hall will grace screens as part of National CineMedia's FATHOM series; a list of cinemas running the film, as well as advance tickets, are available at FATHOM's website.
The concert will also be available via an AOL Music stream that will premiere May 14 at 9:30 p.m. EST, and subsequently be available for on-demand viewing at AOL Music.
ZZ Top , Evanescence , Velvet Revolver, Hinder, Chevelle, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, Puddle of Mudd, The Operator and Black Stone Cherry are among the acts scheduled to perform at the first annual Rock on the Range festival, which is scheduled to take place May 18 at Ohio's Columbus Crew Stadium. Complete details are available at the event's website.
Icelandic singer Bjork looks to drum up publicity for her new album, "Volta"--which lands in stores next Tuesday (5/8)--by streaming the audio from her Saturday (5/5) concert at New York's United Palace via National Public Radio's website. The webcast will begin at 8 p.m. ET, according to NPR, and will be available in MP3 podcast form after the live event ends.
Rapper Busta Rhymes --real name Trevor Smith--has again been arrested, this time for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol.
According to published reports, police stopped Smith's 2006 Yukon Denali in New York City shortly after midnight this morning (5/3) because the tint of the vehicle's windows was too dark. Officers, claiming they smelled alcohol on Smith's breath, administered a Breathalyzer test at the scene, which Smith allegedly failed. Smith was subsequently transported to a police station, where, at press time, he was reportedly being held pending his arraignment today on DUI charges.
Smith's legal troubles have been mounting in recent months. Last month, a judge reportedly withdrew a plea offer that would have allowed Smith to avoid a jail term in connection with assault charges stemming from two separate 2006 incidents; the plea offer was scrapped due to Smith's Feb. 22 arrest for driving with a suspended license. Prosecutors subsequently offered Smith a new deal that would have allowed him to avoid standing trial for the assault charges in exchange for serving a year in jail. Smith rejected the offer and is expected to stand trial starting May 8.
