Released in April, "Dignity" is Duff's third solo album, and follows 2005's "Most Wanted." Duff has a hand in writing her own songs for the first time, a fact that stirred up a bit of controversy when many reviewers assumed the album's track "Gypsy" to be a slap at Nicole Richie, who is currently dating Duff's ex-boyfriend, Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden.
"I hate hearing that, it's so annoying," Duff told Canada's Jam! Music.
"For the first time, I [co-wrote] my record and I'm really proud of this," Duff told the site. "And, yeah, I was in a relationship for two and a half years and I'm 19, and that was a huge part of my life, so there's definitely songs on the record about Joel.
"Of course, everyone wants to focus on the songs that are supposedly about his girlfriend. So it's hurtful. I don't have anything against Nicole Richie. I don't know her. And I care about Joel and I want them to be happy."
