Briefly: U2, Sammy Hagar, Blues Traveler, Michael Franti
Originally released in VHS form in 1998, the video--due out June 26--captures the band's December 1997 performance at the Foro Sol Autodromo. The film was transferred to digital format with "upgraded pictures and remastered audio, mixed in 5.1 Surround Sound," according to U2's website.
The set will be available as a single disc, as well as in a limited-edition two-disc version, the second disc of which will feature unreleased live audio and video material. Additional details, including the set's full tracklisting, are posted at U2's website.
Rocker Sammy Hagar , who recently joined the ranks of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work with Van Halen, has postponed his planned three-night stand in Lake Tahoe this weekend due to an unspecified illness.
The May 4-6 shows--which were scheduled as indoor performances to celebrate the Cinco de Mayo weekend as well as the third anniversary of Hagar's nightclub the Tahoe Wabo--will now take place in the form of one large outdoor performance on Sunday, June 17 at Harvey's Outdoor Arena in Stateline, NV, according to Hagar's website.
Blues Traveler will headline a May 14 concert at the Playboy Mansion, an event that aims to raise funds for the Marijuana Policy Project; the organization is "the largest marijuana reform organization in the US," according to a press release.
Comedian Joe Rogan will host the show, during which comedian/talk-show host Bill Maher will receive the Public Face of Reform award; Playboy founder Hugh Hefner was last year's recipient.
Additional details about the event, including ticket information, are available at the Marijuana Policy Project's website.
Michael Franti has booked a May 19 concert at California's San Quentin Prison. The show will be the prison's first since Metallica played there in 2002, and will take place in front of about 2,000 inmates, according to a press release.
