Static X lands on Ozzfest main stage

Ozzfest alumnus Static X has been announced as the final main-stage act for the hard rock extravaganza's 12th annual installment, tickets to which will be free.

Static X, which is touring in support of its just-released album "Cannibal," will join Ozzy Osbourne , Lamb of God and Finnish band Lordi on the Ozzfest main stage. The second stage will feature headliner Hatebreed along with Mondo Generator, Ankla, Circus Diablo, Nile, The Showdown, Behemoth, 3 Inches of Blood, Daath, Chthonic, and In This Moment.

The 24-city trek, which has been dubbed "Freefest" by tour organizers, is set to kick off July 12 in Auburn, WA, and hit amphitheaters from coast to coast through August. Dates are listed below.

To score free tickets, fans must obtain ticket codes that will be distributed beginning Saturday (5/12) through the websites of Ozzfest, promoter Live Nation and tour sponsors Monster Energy, Jagermusic and f.y.e.. Fans will then return to the site where they registered beginning June 12, enter their code and download tickets to the show of their choice, according to organizers. There is a two-ticket limit per customer.

Osbourne, who returns to Ozzfest's headlining slot this year after surprising fans in 2006 with a handful of second-stage performances, will release a new studio album May 22. "Black Rain" is the rocker's first set of new material in six years.

The Prince of Darkness is offering fans a chance to get in the action with a contest to direct the video for the album's first single "I Don't Wanna Stop." Osbourne and his band shot hi-res performance footage of the entire song on green screen from seven different camera angles and made it available for download on the contest web page. Directors can use their own footage, the band's or a mix. The winning clip will become the official video and be serviced to outlets all over the world, according to a press release.
