New Mexico Fire Benefit To Feature Randy Travis, Melissa Etheridge

Country musician Randy Travis and his wife and manager Elizabeth are organizing a May 28 benefit concert for the victims of a fire which has charred 48,000 acres in and around New Mexico’s Santa Fe National Forest over the last week. Others scheduled to appear at the benefit include Melissa Etheridge , Paul Rodriguez, Michael Martin Murphy, Ali MacGraw and Gary Morris.

Tickets to the event went on sale on Friday (5/19) through tickets.com outlets and Furr’s supermarkets in Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. The show is scheduled to take place at the Opera Theater in Santa Fe, and will be preceded by a silent auction.

Country radio stations KRST and KTBL in Albuquerque have donated airtime to promote the concert, and Private Issue, which has long been a corporate sponsor of Travis, is underwriting some of the concert expenses.

Donations can also be mailed to: Randy Travis In Concert--New Mexico Fire Disaster Relief, P.O. Box 31189, Santa Fe, NM, 87594. The donations, along with the proceeds from the concert and silent auction, will be given to the American Red Cross and earmarked for New Mexico disaster victims.

The fire was 90% contained by Monday afternoon (5/22). Though no one has been killed in the blaze, 200 homes were destroyed.
