Back injury sidelines Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin was forced to cancel a few concerts on his North American tour this week after spraining his lower back last Friday (5/11) during a gig in Laredo, TX.

Shows last night (5/14) in El Paso, TX; tonight (5/15) in Glendale, AZ; and tomorrow (5/16) near Albuquerque, NM, are canceled. Potential dates for rescheduling are being explored, according to Martin's website.

After undergoing treatments in San Antonio and El Paso, TX, Martin's physician insisted that he refrain from performing for a few days to avoid further injury, according to a press release.

It looks like the singer will play the final two dates of his month-long North American run this weekend in Miami and Orlando, FL. Details are listed below.

Martin kicked off his Black & White world tour in February with a record-setting, four-night stand in his native Puerto Rico that drew more than 60,000 fans.

The Grammy-winning star is supporting his November CD/DVD release, "Ricky Martin: MTV Unplugged," which features acoustic versions of nine of his biggest hits plus three new tracks. The album's first single, "Tu Recuerdo," spent several weeks atop Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart and is currently streaming at Martin's MySpace page.

During his nearly two-decade career, Martin has sold more than 55 million albums, according to his bio. He was recently honored as the Latin Recording Academy's "Person of the Year" and was also recently named one of People Magazine's 100 most influential Hispanics.
