Briefly: Prince, Monolith Festival, Charlie Louvin, E.G. Daily
Prince is expected to announce plans for a seven-week residency in Los Angeles, the L.A. Times reports.
According to the report, the yet-to-be-finalized plans call for Prince to play seven consecutive Fridays at the Roosevelt Hotel, starting June 15. The paper claims that Prince will hit the stage at 11: 30 p.m. for a two-hour performance in the Blossom Room--which can accommodate 250 seated guests and an unspecified number of standing-room-only patrons--and that the hotel's Dakota restaurant will be transformed into an after-hours dinner club at 2 a.m., at which time Prince's private chef will take over the kitchen, and Prince will lead a jazz ensemble that will entertain diners until 4 a.m.
The paper reports that Prince will be staying at the hotel all summer while he and his band rehearse for their recently announced 21-show run in London.
The Flaming Lips , Cake, The Decemberists, Kings of Leon, Spoon, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Ghostland Observatory have all signed on for the late-summer Monolith Festival, set to take place Sept. 14-15 at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater, according to a press release.
Other acts confirmed for the bill include Brian Jonestown Massacre, Juliette and The Licks, Flosstradamus, Kid Sister, Cloud Cult, Earl Greyhound, Das Efx, The Broken West, Yacht, Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, Bob Log III, Lords of the Underground, Mobius Band, Ra Ra Riot, Minus Story and Otis Gibbs. Additional artists will be announced, according to organizers. Additional information is available at the festival's website.
Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie Louvin --one half of legendary country duo The Louvin Brothers--will mark his upcoming 80th birthday with some new releases and some personal appearances.
Louvin, who will turn 80 on July 7, is scheduled to give a July 6 performance at Nashville's Mercy Lounge, and will celebrate his birthday proper with a CD signing and guest-DJ slot at Grimey's Records; a second signing at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop; a performance on the Grand Ole Opry; and a performance at the Texas Trubador Theater as part of an event dubbed a Midnight Jamboree, according to his publicist.
The day after his birthday, Louvin will be on hand at the Country Music Hall of fame, where he'll premiere his new music video for "Ira," which a press release describes as "a moving tribute to his late brother." The song appears on Louvin's forthcoming, digital-only EP featuring, a six-song set that goes on sale July 3.
Singer/actress E.G. Daily has released her music catalog to Apple's iTunes Music store.
The iTunes offering includes "Tearing Down the Walls," a self-released set previously available only through Daily's website. Brick-and-mortar stores will have the album starting Sept. 18, at which time a revamped version featuring bonus cuts will replace the original version currently available via iTunes, according to a press release.
Daily plans to launch a tour in August; dates haven't yet been announced.
