White Stripes to hit more uncharted territories
In their quest to visit all 16 states that they've not yet played, garage-rock duo The White Stripes have added another leg of US dates to their tour, which now stretches through September.
The band's North American trek begins June 17 at Manchester, TN's Bonnaroo festival and continues with a string of dates in Canada, during which The White Stripes will hit all 10 provinces as well as the Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.
"Having never done a full tour of Canada, [drummer] Meg [White] and I thought it was high time to go whole hog," frontman Jack White said in a statement. He added that the July 14 concert in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, will fall on The White Stripes' 10th anniversary.
The US run launches July 22 in Portland, ME, and includes two-night stands in Chicago, Austin and Seattle. Details are listed below.
Before the North American trek, The White Stripes will travel the European festival circuit, starting with a May 31 headlining slot at Barcelona's Primavera Sound Festival. Overseas shows are listed at the band's website.
After a nearly two-year hiatus, the Stripes warmed up for their world tour with a surprise gig May 18 at Nashville's Cannery Ballroom. Their new album, "Icky Thump," is scheduled to hit the streets June 19, and is available for preorder at the iTunes Music Store. The title track is streaming at The White Stripes' MySpace page.
The new record is the band's sixth studio effort and follows 2005's "Get Behind Me Satan," which won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album.
