Indie-rap supergroup Felt [ tickets ], featuring Slug and Ant from Atmosphere and Murs from Living Legends [ tickets ], will headline the inaugural touring edition of the Paid Dues independent hip-hop festival.

The tour, which kicks off July 25 in Chicago, builds on a one-city-only event of the same name, which took place in Los Angeles this past March. The traveling version of the festival will hit 11 cities this summer; the complete schedule is listed below.

Other performers announced for the touring festival include Murs' primary concern, hip-hop ensemble Living Legends, along with Sage Francis, Brother Ali, Cage and a number of others, including "special guests," according to the tour's organizers. At the tour's New York (July 28-29) and Los Angeles (Aug. 11) stops, the festival will merge briefly with the Rock the Bells [ tickets ] tour, featuring Rage Against the Machine and Wu-Tang Clan. Both tours are being handled by independent concert promotion outfit Guerilla Union.

"Paid Dues represents a rare opportunity for these artists to showcase the strength of independent hip-hop," Chang Weisberg of Guerilla Union said in a press release. "These artists have made their careers with live performances.

"The thing about Paid Dues that makes it so special is that most of these artists will watch the show with their fans, sign every autograph, and take pictures with every fan. The DIY spirit and passion with this group of artists is undeniable."

Rapper Murs, who is co-organizing the event, added that the festival is "something like a Warped tour for underground hip-hop, where my friends and I could be outside in the daylight enjoying summer with our fans instead of cramped up in some dark smelly nightclub worried about staying up too late and being too tired for work the next morning."
