Kenny G.'s in the mood for touring

Smooth-jazz saxman Kenny G. is said to be "out on the road in full force," according to his website, which so far lists scattered dates into September.

The multi-platinum-selling musician--who performed in Virginia, British Columbia Alaska this month--will pick up again July 18 with two nights in Orillia, Ontario. He'll then crisscross the US, hitting cities including Atlantic City, NJ; Detroit; San Diego, CA; and Las Vegas. The itinerary is listed below.

Kenny G. continues to support his November release, "I'm in the Mood for Love ... The Most Romantic Melodies of all Time," which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top Contemporary Jazz chart and peaked at No. 37 on The Billboard 200.

The all-instrumental album teams the saxophonist with longtime collaborator Walter Afanasieff (Barbra Streisand, Luther Vandross), and features romantic classics including "The Way You Look Tonight" and "It Had to be You," along with contemporary hits like James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" and Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You."

Also last year, Kenny G. released "Essential Kenny G.," a two-disc, greatest-hits set that includes 31 of his major and minor hits, plus cover tunes and Christmas songs.

As he steps out to promote his latest work, Kenny G. has felt the need to quash rumors that he is forming a supergroup with Michael Bolton, John Tesh and Yanni.

"I have no idea where this rumor came from," the musician said in a posting at his website. "This is just not true. I'm very much in the midst of promotion for my new album and have no intentions [of] being part of any type of group ... super or otherwise ... with the exception of the great musicians that have been part of my band for the last 15 years."

As of last July, Kenny G. was the 25th highest-selling artist in America with a total of 48 million albums sold, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. He broke records with his 1992 set "Breathless," which became the best-selling instrumental album ever, and with 1994's "Miracles: The Holiday Album," which became the most successful Christmas album ever, according to various reports.

In case the music-career thing doesn't work out, Kenny G. may be able to fall back on golfing. With a plus-0.6 Handicap Index, he was recently rated the world's best golfer among musicians by Golf Digest.
