Black Keys gift free live EP, plan summer dates
Blues-rock duo The Black Keys return to the road in June bearing a present for their fans: a free live EP that the band is making available over the Internet.
The set, simply titled "The Live EP," consists of four songs culled from a pair of 2006 shows the group performed in support of its most recent studio set, last year's "Magic Potion." The release is available for download on the band's MySpace page.
Meanwhile, the Ohioans will tackle a fresh slate of live dates in June leading up to their Aug. 3 appearance at Chicago's Lollapalooza. The headlining trek will get underway June 13 in Tulsa, OK, and hit 12 cities in the Southwest and Midwest. The band's full schedule is included below.
The resurgent Dinosaur Jr., whose comeback album, "Beyond," hit stores in April, will open shows during the first, southern half of the outing.
The band's guitarist, Dan Auerbach, and drummer, Pat Carney, recorded and produced "Magic Potion" in Carney's basement studio in Akron, OH. The set follows 2004's acclaimed indie release "Rubber Factory."
The casual approach to recording the album paid off, Auerbach said in the band's online bio. "The idea was for people to be able to sit on a porch in Akron with a can of beer and blast the record through a boom box."
