White Stripes reschedule handful of September shows
With the start of their American tour just weeks away, drum-and-guitar duo The White Stripes have rescheduled a stretch of shows in early September due to scheduling conflicts.
Dates affected by what the band calls on its website "unforeseen scheduling issues" include Sept. 4-5 in Chicago; Sept. 6 in Lincoln, NE; Sept. 7 in Fargo, ND; Sept. 8 in Rapid City, SD; Sept. 10 in Jackson Hole, WY; Sept. 11 in Boise, ID; Sept. 12 in Salt Lake City, and Sept. 13 in Albuquerque, NM.
All shows but the Albuquerque date have been rescheduled for later in September and early in October. "A new date for Albuquerque will be announced very soon," the band wrote in a posting on its website. "We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our fans." The band's complete itinerary, including rescheduled shows, is shown below.
The Detroit garage-rockers kick off their North American trek June 17 at Manchester, TN's Bonnaroo festival and continue with a string of dates in Canada, during which they'll hit all 10 provinces as well as the Yukon, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.
"Having never done a full tour of Canada, [drummer] Meg [White] and I thought it was high time to go whole hog," frontman Jack White said in a statement. He added that the July 14 concert in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, will fall on The White Stripes ' 10th anniversary.
The US run launches July 22 in Portland, ME, and includes two-night stands in Chicago, Austin and Seattle.
The White Stripes are currently traveling the European festival circuit, and kicked things off last night (5/31) with a headlining slot at Barcelona's Primavera Sound Festival. Overseas shows are listed at the band's website.
After a nearly two-year hiatus, the Stripes warmed up for their world tour with a surprise gig May 18 at Nashville's Cannery Ballroom. Their new album, "Icky Thump," is scheduled to hit the streets June 19, and is available for preorder at the iTunes Music Store. The title track is streaming at The White Stripes' MySpace page.
The new record is the band's sixth studio effort and follows 2005's "Get Behind Me Satan," which won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album.
